Big Mountain Events & Activities
The Doug & Rollie Smith Memorial Downhill speeds into action Feb. 8 - 16 at Big Mountain Resort, where some of the nation's top racers will compete in Super Giant Slalom (SG) Downhill (DH) and Super Combined (SC) events.
This year's race is again part of the NOR-AM Super Series, which is the circuit below World Cup level. Members of the US and Canadian National Teams, as well as an elite field from North America will compete on Big Mountain.
Great viewing spots can be accessed at various points along Big Mountain's Ursa Major racecourse. The URSA Major DH/SG track, formerly known as the Toni Matt course, has recently been re-homologated (re-inspected) and passed with high marks. The course will challenge athletes by generating speeds in excess of 75 miles-per-hour and with jumps over 100 feet in distance.

Feb. 8: Women SG and SC Race (10:30 a.m. start)
Feb. 9: Women SG Race
Feb. 10: Men & Women DH Train (11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts)
Feb. 11: Men & Women DH Training (11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts)
Feb. 12: Men & Women DH Race (11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts)
Feb. 13: Men & Women DH Race
Feb. 14: Men SG and SC Race (10 a.m. start)
Feb. 15: Men SG Race (10 a.m. start)
Feb. 16: Weather Day (if needed)
The schedule may be adjusted as the race jury sees fit based on weather factors.
Big Mountain's Events Department is looking for interested citizens who would like to volunteer to help with the races. Those interested should contact the Events Department at 406-862-2911. All volunteers will receive free lunch and a voucher for a free lift ticket, redeemable anytime within the next year.
Volunteers will meet at Hellroaring at 8 a.m. each race day.
